Look at you! That's impressive.

I was in the best shape of my entire life when I did CrossFit. It was a bit too Type A for me, though, but I did learn the fundamentals of lifting, as well as eating right, as opposed to going on the next fad diet.

This sounds like a good read.

BTW - I used to be the finance director of a YWCA with a huge fitness program. When people quit to join crossfit, I always said "we'll see you in 8 months when you recover from your injuries." Snarky yes, but a lot of people did get injured. I also have a lot of friends who have really thrived there.

It's easy to go too hard, that's for sure. I've also seen injuries in my clients that they got from running or yoga or other things... luckily almost all workout injuries I've seen in people, CrossFit or otherwise, have been minor.

I just read an article about rhabdomyolysis this weekend on another spin instructor's blog. Now I'm all freaked out about that. All of the instructors at my facility encourage people to 'go hard'. I'm trying to think up some new language: C'mon sprint! Harder! But not too hard!

FWIW I'm surprised that that is a concern in cycling, because cycling has little eccentric stress, I think? And eccentric is what causes the most muscle damage. Admittedly I know nothing about spin except that it involves a bike. Do people get rhabdomyolysis from spin if they do too much?

Hmmm. Fitness clients? Are you a trainer?

Yes, I've been a trainer either part or full time since 2006. I owned a CrossFit for 7 years also.

Well that's pretty interesting. I'd like to read more about that. Fitness is a pretty big aspect of my life, although I'm not quite in the shape I was 10 years ago (much to my disgust). But I just got back into instructing spin classes, so that's a start.

Thanks for letting me know you'd like to read more about that. I'll try writing more about it.
